A multi-vehicle accident occurred on the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Toll Road after a pickup truck driver lost control while attempting to overtake another car. The reckless maneuver triggered a chain reaction, involving a total of four vehicles.
A video circulating on social media shows the pickup truck driver making a dangerous overtaking move, resulting in the pile-up.
AKBP Ojo Ruslani, Head of Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, confirmed the incident. He stated that the accident took place on Saturday, March 22nd, at approximately 4:15 PM local time, in front of the Amaris Hotel at kilometer marker 32+600, Benda, Tangerang, Banten.
According to AKBP Ojo Ruslani’s report on Sunday, March 23rd, the accident began when a Sodikin-driven Isuzu Traga Pick Up, plate number B-9548-UAP, was traveling towards Soekarno-Hatta Airport from Jakarta.
“While in the second lane, the vehicle changed lanes to overtake a Mitsubishi Xpander B-2089-TYX, driven by Marhaenita R, from the right,” AKBP Ojo Ruslani explained. “However, there was insufficient space, causing the Isuzu Traga to lose control to the left and collide with the right side of the Mitsubishi Xpander.”
The Isuzu Traga Pick Up then struck a Daihatsu Xenia, B-2563-NFD, driven by Muhammad Taufiq, which was in the first lane.
The impact propelled the Daihatsu Xenia into a Daihatsu Calya, B-1526-ROD, which was stationary on the shoulder of the road due to a mechanical issue.
“The driver of the Daihatsu Calya, Marliana Pardede, who was outside the vehicle, was also hit. She sustained injuries including a bruised left temple, abrasions on her left shoulder, and abrasions on her left hand,” AKBP Ojo Ruslani stated.
The injured victim was immediately transported to the KKP Airport Clinic before being transferred to Dr. Sitanala General Hospital in Tangerang for further medical treatment.
Accident Cause Under Investigation
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident. The Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate’s Law Enforcement Unit has conducted a thorough crime scene investigation, examined witnesses, and secured evidence, including the four vehicles involved.
Furthermore, police have requested a medical examination of the victim and filed an official report regarding the incident.
“We are still conducting further investigation to determine the exact cause of this accident,” AKBP Ojo Ruslani concluded.
