Sangiran Museum, An Archaelogical Museum In Central Java

Sangiran is a place in Central Java which is already known as one of the best excavation site in the world. It was approved by UNESCO through report which was released on 1995 “Sangiran is recognized by scientists as one of the most important sites in the world for studying fossil man –”.

There are thousands fossil buried in this place, to exhibit the fossil found in this place, a Museum was created near the excavation site; the museum is called Sangiran Archeological Museum.

Just as the name suggests this museum consists of information regarding the lifestyle of primordial human, especially in Java which was contributed by the researcher from all over the world. 

Sangiran Archeological museum is located in Desa Krikilan Kalijambe, Sragen, Central Java. It is around 20km north of Solo.

There are a lot of alternatives in going there, because the road leading to the place is in a good condition since the place is considered as one of the most important places in the world in terms of excavation site.

Just like the usual museum, this museum is the place to exhibit ancient artifacts but in this case it takes form of fossils.

You can expect yourself finding a lot of things related with ancient human such as the fossils of  pithecanthropus erectus  or Australopithecus Africanus.

Not only the fossils of ancient human, but you can also find the fossil of ancient water animal, or plants even stone and tools from the ancient era.

There are more than 13000 fossils being kept in this place but only ¼ of them are being displayed.  The display room is divided into several parts with three main purposes; those are exhibition area, meeting area, and public services area.

There is a new attraction in this place called Pandang Tower, it is a recently built tower in order to make the tourist able to do some sightseeing from the tower itself, and due to the height it is possible for the tourist to see the whole excavation site from the tower. For you who want to spend the night around Sangiran excavation site there are a lot of resorts which are occasionally used by researcher from all over the world to stay.
