JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Motorcycle enthusiasts are undoubtedly familiar with the Yamaha F1ZR, an iconic underbone motorcycle with a distinctive, tapered, and aggressive design that emerged in the 1990s.
The Yamaha F1ZR is now increasingly becoming a collector’s item. However, given that their condition is no longer like new, these 2-stroke underbones often require restoration.
Although the Yamaha F1ZR has long been discontinued, consumers seemingly don’t need to worry about difficulty in finding components.

Because several workshops still provide both fast-moving and slow-moving spare parts. They even offer motorcycle restoration services.
So, how much money is needed to restore a Yamaha F1ZR?
“So, the concept of restoration is the same as building a house. If we want our house to look comfortable and luxurious, it depends on the allocation of funds. It’s the same as building a motorcycle, it depends on the consumer,” said Yudistira Rachman, owner of motorcycle dealer and modification workshop YR2Stroke in Solo, Central Java, to Kompas.com (03/10/2025).

“The more ‘hedonistic’ parts that are attached to the motorbike, the more expensive it will be. Usually, I give an estimate to consumers who want an original look, I give a rate of IDR 45 million,” he said.
Yudis explained why motorcycle restoration costs can reach IDR 45 million. Firstly, because F1ZR spare parts are no longer produced. So the price increases along with demand.
Furthermore, restoring a 2-stroke motorcycle requires more in-depth work. Such as engine repairs, replacement of internal components, or repainting. This process requires high technical skills and time, which adds to the cost.

“Because everything is full restoration, everything is fresh, overall new. That’s just the restoration, without the motorcycle material. If with the material, the cost depends. For example, if you request an F1ZR Caltex, it will cost an additional IDR 25 million. If it’s a regular F1ZR, it could be IDR 50 million,” said Yudis.
“The minimum is actually IDR 25 million, that doesn’t include the material. If it’s below IDR 25 million, the motorbike won’t be as good as it could be in my personal opinion. A minimum of IDR 25 million and the motorbike is already good, original standard,” he said.
Ringkasan
The Yamaha F1ZR, a 1990s underbone motorcycle, is becoming a sought-after collector’s item, often requiring restoration due to its age. While spare parts are still available through various workshops, the cost of restoring an F1ZR can vary significantly depending on the desired level of restoration and the parts used.
According to Yudistira Rachman from YR2Stroke, restoring an F1ZR to its original condition can cost at least IDR 25 million (approximately $1,500 USD) without including the cost of the motorcycle itself. A full restoration with “hedonistic” or rare parts, such as an F1ZR Caltex, can escalate the cost significantly, potentially reaching IDR 45 million or more, due to the scarcity and increased demand for original components and the in-depth work required for 2-stroke engine restoration.
