MEDAN, KOMPAS.com – The free “Mudik” (annual exodus during Eid al-Fitr) program for Lebaran 2025 extends to North Sumatra, specifically benefiting train passengers.
M. As’ad Habibuddin, Public Relations Manager of Divre I North Sumatra, announced that a total of 7,073 tickets are available for those wishing to return to their hometowns.
“PT KAI (Indonesian Railway Company) Divisi Regional I North Sumatra, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of North Sumatra, is launching a free ‘Mudik’ program for Lebaran 2025,” he stated in a written statement on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Here are the details:
1. Putri Deli Train (Medan-Tanjung Balai Route): 5,002 tickets. KA U 98 Putri Deli, serving the Medan-Tanjung Balai route, departs from March 26th to 29th, 2025. Meanwhile, KA U 97 Putri Deli, traveling from Tanjung Balai to Medan, will depart from April 5th to 7th, 2025. KA U 95 Putri Deli, also on the Tanjung Balai-Medan route, will depart on April 7th, 2025.

2. Sribilah Utama Train (Medan-Rantau Prapat Route): 2,071 tickets. KA U58F Sribilah Utama, operating on the Medan-Rantau Prapat route, is scheduled to depart on March 28th and 29th, 2025. KA U57F Sribilah Utama, traveling from Rantau Prapat to Medan, will depart on April 6th and 7th, 2025.
Registration for these free tickets has been open to the public from March 10th to 21st, 2025, via the link: linkt.es/MUDIKGRATISPEMPROVSU2025.
Tickets can also be booked through the Access by KAI application starting March 21st, 2025, while quotas last.
“Please ensure that the name on the ticket matches the passenger traveling,” As’ad emphasized.
As’ad hopes that with this program, people won’t have to worry about train ticket costs and can focus on enjoying their “Mudik” journey with their families.
