Free Homecoming Transportation Offered by Jambi Government for Eid al-Fitr
JAMBI, KOMPAS.com – The Jambi government is providing free “mudik,” or homecoming, transportation for residents looking to travel to Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, and the Pati region for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on travelers and ensure they can celebrate with their families.
The government has allocated four buses, with a total capacity of approximately 200 passengers, for this year’s free mudik program. The annual tradition underscores the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens during this important holiday.
One passenger, Danil, who was heading towards Solo, expressed his gratitude for the program, stating that he utilizes this free transportation service every year to return to his hometown. “I’m happy that the government is helping people with this free mudik program. We participate every year, finding out about it through social media,” he said at the terminal on Monday, March 24, 2025.
Echoing Danil’s sentiments, Anggun, a traveler heading to Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, also shared her positive experience. “I’m going home to Padang for the Lebaran holiday for two weeks. I found out about the program through a group chat; someone shared the information. The requirements [for the free mudik] are a student ID card and a KTP (national ID card),” she explained.
Jambi Governor Al Haris emphasized the significant number of Jambi residents who originate from other regions. “Of course, they want to return to their hometowns, so the government provides free bus transportation for mudik every year,” said Al Haris.
While acknowledging that the government cannot accommodate all Jambi residents seeking to travel home for the holiday, the Governor stressed that this initiative represents the Jambi government’s dedication to its citizens, enabling them to reunite with their loved ones during this special time.
