TikTok Star Steven Wongso Embraces Islam, Guided by Ustaz Felix Siauw

Felix Siauw shared the heartfelt moment on his official Instagram account, depicting Steven reciting the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, surrounded by close friends.

According to Ustaz Felix Siauw, Steven had been exploring Islam for about a year. Their discussions deepened in 2025, covering various aspects of life, including Islam.

“This year, during Ramadan, Steven visited YukNgajiHQ, and we had extensive conversations about life, anxieties, love, and, most importantly, how religion can provide answers to life’s uncertainties and mental anguish,” Felix Siauw wrote in his post on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

These conversations reminded Felix Siauw of his own spiritual journey 23 years prior. Their shared questions and concerns about faith resonated deeply.

“And this afternoon, on the 23rd of Ramadan, Alhamdulillah, Steven made the firm decision to become a Muslim, reciting the Shahada in front of his close friends. I am very happy to have helped guide Steven,” the Ustaz added.

Felix Siauw also revealed that Steven Wongso had already begun practicing Islamic rituals before his formal declaration.

“In fact, Steven had been practicing Islam long before, understanding how to perform ablution (wudhu), prayer (shalat), and even fasting. Embracing Islam came very naturally to him,” he noted.

The social media personality, rumored to be dating comedian Arafah Rianti, initially preferred to keep his conversion private. However, he eventually allowed Felix Siauw to share the news, hoping that it would encourage people to send their best wishes and prayers to Steven.

Steven Wongso joins a growing list of public figures, including Celine Evangelista and Bobon Santoso, who have embraced Islam during Ramadan 1446 Hijriah.

As a new convert (mualaf), Steven, like any Indonesian citizen, has administrative obligations to fulfill, including reporting his change of religious status to the civil registry.

Before reporting to the local Disdukcapil (Population and Civil Registry Office), a new convert must obtain a letter of confirmation from a religious leader or a copy thereof. In this case, a mualaf can obtain a mualaf certificate from the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA).

How to Declare the Shahada at the KUA

According to the official website of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of Central Java, registering a change of religion at the KUA is free of charge.

Based on the official website of mui.or.id, some documents that need to be brought to the KUA include:

  • A letter of introduction from the village office for the purpose of religious conversion
  • A signed statement of conversion to Islam (bermaterai – with official stamp)
  • 3 photocopies each of your ID card (KTP) and family card (KK)
  • 3 3×4 sized photographs

In addition to these required documents, a baptism certificate may also be necessary, as stated on the Kemenag Central Java website.

For your information, the statement of conversion to Islam from Kemenag can be downloaded from their official website.

To expedite the process, the KUA suggests reciting the Shahada at a local mosque to obtain a letter of confirmation from the mosque’s administrators (takmir masjid), signed by two witnesses.

Furthermore, to complete the administrative changes to your status and religious data, you can visit the sub-district (kecamatan) office.

The documents needed at the sub-district office include:

  • A letter of introduction from the RT (neighborhood unit) and RW (community unit)
  • Original ID card (KTP) and family card (KK)
  • Mualaf Certificate
  • Certificate of Conversion

These are the steps to officially register your change of status as a new convert (mualaf).
